I have lived around the Cotswold for 30 years and my pilates journey started in 2010 following a knee injury from skiing. I was advised to try pilates to strengthen the muscles and keep my knee mobilised. After my first session I was hooked! Increasing weekly sessions to twice a week, it was the first exercise class I had ever been to where I wasn't clock watching and bored. Knee problem resolved, lower back pain disappeared and with a bit of practicing at home, I was amazed at how quickly my body changed, becoming stronger, leaner, better posture, more flexibility and mobility and just general well being.
I discovered Body Control Pilates on a retreat to Tuscany. I'd never heard of it and at first I though it was a bit slow, a bit controlled; then something clicked with the revelation that this was what pilates was all about. Not jumping around to music, swinging it all about, but slow controlled movements done with precision, with a teacher who cares about your movement pattern, corrects your alignment and gives you a suitable exercise for your own ability. Once I had discovered Body Control I wanted to pass on this hugely beneficial method to others and telling virtually everyone I met they should try it, I decided to train to teach. Body Control have such high training standards, but I was proud to qualify with Body Control Pilates as a Level 3 Matwork Pilates Instructor. Since then I have taken several additional qualifications and continue to expand my knowledge and teaching skills.
